Best Coastal Spots to Elope in Malibu

You might know Malibu from frequent scenes of the Pacific Coast Highway in movies, but what isn’t often shown is the rocky and rugged coastline it has to offer. Yes, there are definitely sandy beaches, but there are also beautiful bluffs and rock formations at many beaches along the 27 mile stretch of Malibu. Your furry friend can even be included into your vows.

There are 3 main beaches that I refer my clients to, and each one has something unique to offer.

Point Dume

Point Dume offers the most variety in terms of vistas. There are bluffs, and rock formations with the locals using them as climbing walls. And in the Spring of rainier winters, wildflowers bloom. While parking can be difficult, I can guide you to the local spots to make walking to the best lookouts a short trip.

Once we start the short hike to the best spots that vibe like Big Sur, we can get portraits and then continue the hike to the tips of the bluffs for vows. We can end up at the beach, in a private cove for some blue hour portraits and a romp in the sand.

Matador Beach

Probably the most popular photoshoot spot in all of coastal LA, Matador Beach boasts beautiful light and rock formations worthy of Bond films. The views from above ain’t bad either. There is a semi-steep path leading to the beach, that allows for views from points along the way, including just steps from the small parking lot. Consider the steep steps if you are inviting anyone who isn’t able to handle that kind of terrain. Once down on the beach, there are plenty of rock formations and a little keyhole area that is beautiful during low tide.

Leo Carrillo

If you want to include your furry friend, this is the beach for you! I recommend this beach in the winter, when the tides are extremely low, exposing rocks and accessible caves that aren’t available when the tide is high. There is a portion of this beach that is similar to Matador Beach, but doesn’t allow pups. However, the longer strand does allow dogs year round. There is also camping just on the other side of the PCH, for any who dream of S’mores and campfires after their nuptials.
