How to Plan Your Beach Adventure Session

Grab your surf boards. Frolic on the beach. Jump in the water. Play in the sand. This can all be done in your elopement adventure session or even for you engagement photos!

So, how do you do it? There are a few things to consider before planning a beach adventure session. Check them out below!

1.Pick an off season time of the year. I generally recommend early fall or late spring for shoulder seasons where you get warmer weather and less crowds. Keep in mind that May gray and June gloom are REAL, and while they can provide fun & moody fog shots, they aren’t going to give the sunset vibe you might be chasing.

2. Check the tides. High tide can eat away almost entire beaches, so if you want to have a lot of space to run and play, make sure you and your photographer (aka me!) are aware of the tides.

3. Know which beaches are rocky vs. sandy. You gotta know your beach! Some are beautiful at low tide, but make it tough to play in the water. So really know what kinda vibe you are going for and how much you want to dunk vs just stay on the beach. And as for surfing, know what breaks or points are good (or ask me) that can also be accessed from a beach. And know that sometimes waves are just going to be rough and not conducive to good surfing, but a board can still be a great prop.

4. Embrace the wind! Beaches are going to be windy, and if you are local to SoCal, you know this year has been extremely windy. Bring layers, towels, and dry cozy clothes to go home in.

5. Plan your outfits. Want to start in something more formal and then strip down to a bikini or wetsuit? Or just wanna rock the bikini and board shorts from the get go? Perfect!
